Canonbie Community Enterprise has been successful in its bid to take over Canonbie shop and post office after 20 months of determined negotiations. At lunchtime on Monday the keys were handed over to the organisation by the previous postmaster Andrew Scott marking a new chapter for the village. The outcome was the result of a lot of work by dedicated people working together with a shared goal – to secure and safeguard the future of vital local services for Canonbie. The organisation was set up with the specific aim of ensuring that the community would not lose the shop and post office.
A representative of the group said
“We’re incredibly pleased and proud to have reached this milestone, however the final steps happened rather quickly and we will be finding our feet over the next few weeks and months. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we get everything into place. There may be temporary changes to opening hours at the post office while we settle in.
