Center Parc’s plans for development of site near Hawick will have no bearing on local project
Buccleuch staff, along with representatives of partner organisations, held a further consultation event on Thursday about the proposed holiday lodge development at Irvine House. It’s hoped that a planning application can be submitted before Christmas and an economic impact assessment is currently being undertaken to
support that. If the holiday development goes ahead there is an aspiration to employ local people and create a mix of jobs including in housekeeping, management, ground maintenance and catering.
The plans for the main house include creating guest areas, a restaurant, meeting rooms and accommodation for staff. It is likely that there will be a laundry on site. The lodge at the entrance gate will become a reception and the site manager’s residence.
Buccleuch has not identified an operator for the site as yet but they themselves will not be the operator of the holiday complex. The Irvine House site will be very
different to a Center Parcs type facility and will cater for people who want to come to a quiet part of Dumfries and Galloway and visit other places in the vicinity. It is hoped that links can be made locally so that the operator can inform guests about visitor attractions and what is happening locally.
