The Church of Scotland presbytery of the South West held a service in Langholm Parish Church last Thursday to celebrate the union of Eskdale and Liddesdale charges and the linkage with Canonbie United Church. This was also a Service of Introduction of Reverend Morag Crossan to the Congregation of the former parishes of Langholm, Eskdalemuir, Ewes and Westerkirk.
Mr Andrew Morton, Moderator of the Presbytery led the service and the Clerk to the Presbytery Christine Murray formally read the constitutional arrangements. The Reverend Taylor Brown, Deputy Presbytery Clerk also blessed the union and carried out the Introduction of Reverend Crossan who was well supported by members of all of the three previous congregations and Kirk Sessions. The Reverend Scott McCarthy former Minister of Langholm, Eskdalemuir, Ewes and Westerkirk Parish was also present. Following the service a lovely buffet supper and a good blether were enjoyed in Langholm Day Centre.
The Reverend Crossan will now cover Eskdale (former Parish of Langholm, Eskdalemuir, Ewes, and Westerkirk), Liddesdale and Canonbie which is a large geographic area.
