The Dumfriesshire East Community Benefits Group has awarded a further £87,000 in grants to community projects from ScottishPower Renewable’s Ewe Hill 16 windfarm fund in its most recent funding round. Twelve local groups from across Annandale and Eskdale received a total of £87,365 to deliver projects within their communities.
£19,300 was awarded to Langholm Playcare for the purchase of new play equipment, a storage container and staff training. The provision of affordable childcare improves the lives of young children and families by providing quality early years education enabling parents to return to work. Furthermore, it benefits local businesses and the economy by increasing the available workforce and enabling employers to retain skilled staff.
Local sports and recreation clubs were also beneficiaries of the funding awards. Canonbie and District Green Bowling Club were awarded £6,265 for the purchase of a gazebo extension to the clubhouse to facilitate social events.
