Hope Rising: An Easter Message to our Community

Rev Morag Crossan gives her Easter message

As the days grow longer and spring blooms around us, we’re reminded of the hope and renewal that Easter brings. This season is about more than bunnies and eggs—it’s about a story that changed the world and still speaks to us today.
Easter tells of a moment when darkness thought it had won. On Good Friday, Jesus was
crucified—betrayed, beaten, and buried. But three days later, something extraordinary happened. The tomb was empty. Death did not have the final word. Life broke through, and with it came a hope that continues to echo through the centuries.
Whether you’re someone who’s grown up in church, someone who’s stepped away for a while, or someone who’s never set foot inside, the Easter story has something to say to all of us. It speaks of fresh starts, forgiveness, and the incredible power of love that refuses to give up on us.
We live in a world where many feel overwhelmed—by the pace of life, by uncertainty, by grief, or simply by the demands of each day. Easter doesn’t deny the reality of hardship; it meets us in it. The risen Christ appears first to those who were afraid, confused, and hurting. And still today, the message of Easter meets us wherever we are.
This Easter, I want to invite you to pause and reflect on what hope means for you. Maybe you need to hear that you are loved. Maybe you’re longing for a second chance. Or maybe you just need to know that, even in the darkest moments, new life is possible.
At Canonbie Church, we’ll be gathering to celebrate this good news at 10:15 on Easter Sunday —and there’s a place for you. Whether it’s your first time or your hundredth, come as you are. There’s no dress code, no need to have all the answers—just an open door and a welcome with your name on it.
May this Easter season bring you peace, joy, and the hope of new beginnings.

With blessings,
Rev Morag Crossan
