Councillor highlights lack of plans to address Langholm’s transport links with the rest of D&G
During a recent meeting of the Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee, Councillor Denis Male expressed concern at the lack of any plans for Eskdale to be part of the Active or Sustainable Travel Schemes. Further to that meeting, Cllr Male has asked that a meeting of officials and senior councillors be held with the Langholm, Ewes and Westerkirk and Canonbie Community Councils to explore how these issues can be addressed. Issues that were highlighted in the Community Action Plan that was prepared in 2019 and given full approval by the then DG Council and later by South of Scotland Enterprise.
Langholm is the only town in Dumfries and Galloway that does not have any direct public transport access to the rest of the Region. Its transport service runs from Galashiels to Carlisle. It has also, following COVID, seen this service reduced by Border Buses from an hourly service to once every two hours with the earliest bus and the late-night bus being removed altogether. This has been extremely detrimental to those working in the Borders or in Carlisle.
