Canonbie Community Enterprise answers some questions
We asked the Canonbie Community Enterprise Group some questions about how things are going since they took over the running of the post office and convenience store. Answers are below.
Q. How long have you been running the shop and Post Office, and how are you getting on?
A. We took over from Mr Scott at the end of July this year. It has been quite a steep learning curve for all of us, but we have been fortunate to retain the previous employee, who works mornings and has many years of Post Office experience. Two members of the committee completed the Post Office’s three-day training course. This meant we were able to run the branch in the afternoons without interruption until we were able to employ and train a local person to cover those hours.
Q. Is the shop making as much profit as you forecast? A. We had very little idea of how the shop would trade, as Mr Scott was unable to provide us with any trading figures.
