Elizabeth and team are all trained up and ready to run the service seven days a week
Below is an interview with Elizabeth Wilson who owns the paper shop and the pet food shop who is taking on the post office for Langholm. The town has been without a post office for many years now and although there is a part time service provided by Scotby post office in the library two days a week it has been a big miss.
Why have you decided to take on the post office?
The town needed it. We applied when we took over the paper shop and the Post Office at that time said they were happy with the service provided by Scotby. I asked them to keep us in mind and because of the closure of the Bank of Scotland they sent me an email to see if I was still interested and I said yes.
What preparations have you had to make?
Carly (Couperthwaite) and I have gone back to school. We had to do an online course of 12 – 15 hours and we have to go to Glasgow for three days training. The training covers everything including working with vulnerable people through to fraud. Everything is online and a woman is coming for seven days to give us training and support. There is a helpline, a manager who will visit us and a WhatsApp group for people running post offices.
