Gilly Fraser samples a new specialist shop in Newcastleton

A brand-new shop specialising in whisky has opened in Newcastleton.
Appropriately named “Nothing But Whisky,” the shop is in the village’s Grapes Hotel, in an area specially redesigned for the purpose by new owners, brother and sister team Steven and Sharn Swan.
Steven says he first started collecting bottles of whisky around three years ago when he bought one as a present for his daughter – not to drink, but as an investment.
“I spent her birthday and Christmas money because I thought the bottle would be worth more when she’s 18 than if it had just been left in the bank,” he says. “Then I just kept going – and going.”
