Westerkirk farmer in the running for Sheep Farmer of the Year

Well-known local farmer Lorraine Luescher has been named as one of the finalists in the Sheep Farmer of the Year category of the prestigious British Farming Awards.

The award organisers say the finalists in this category have been selected because of all they do to safeguard the land for future generations and for the steps they are taking to embrace sustainable farming practices which work in harmony with the environment.

Lorraine, who has been a hill sheep farmer since 1988, manages Glendinning Farms with 2,200 hectares of hillside pasture, where she carries out the traditional practice of hefting sheep. It relies on the sheep’s natural homing instincts to see them return to their native ground.
