Organisation says existing help should be extended and built upon
The National Sheep Association Scotland is pressing the Government to ensure future support schemes are fit for purpose.
The call comes as part of the body’s response to a recent consultation. NSA Scotland also took the opportunity to highlight the importance of stakeholder engagement to
ensure any such scheme actually reaches those who need them the most.
The group has been calling for some time for a redesign of the Less Favoured Area Support Scheme to help ensure support in the future for those at all stages of their active farming or crofting career.
NSA Scotland Coordinator Grace Reid says more discussion is needed.
“NSA Scotland believes current support should be extended and built upon and would welcome discussions surrounding future schemes such as Less Favoured Area Support Scheme (LFASS) and Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP)” she said.”
The group has previously stated that the current LFASS budget of £65m should be at least maintained and redistributed to those who are farming livestock in disadvantaged areas and depend on crucial financial support for their
viability.
