Family ties and a heart for Langholm have nurtured Ewan’s childhood dreams
Ewan Patterson was elected in May as the Langholm Cornet for 2025 by a majority of 92 votes – there were three other candidates. Ewan is the son of Davie and Fiona Patterson, nee McVittie and the brother of Liam. His grandfather David McVittie was in Langholm pipe band for many years and Ewan’s Uncle David was Cornet in 1996, so he is from a family that has long supported Langholm Common Riding. Ewan will be supported this week by his girlfriend Niamh Kerr who is from Lochmaben.
Ewan was born in Huntingdon as his father was in the RAF Police and moved to Langholm when he was 14 years old. From an early age Ewan came to Langholm every Common Riding and stayed with his granny at Townfoot. Ewan said that when you grow up in a place like Langholm, a quiet place you idolise the Cornet and he always wanted to be that hero.
