Resident Mark Hallam reports on the damage done by the storm along with some crazy drivers and a helpful BEAR team
Storm Amy’s 1 inch (25.9mm) of rain falling in just a few hours (as evidenced by Langholm’s weather-watcher data)
resulted in a deluge of water and debris cascading down Hallpath and causing a very dangerous flood on A7, with traffic struggling to get through, narrowly missing head on collisions and often setting up a bow-wave, threatening the safety of any pedestrians as well as integrity of adjacent wall (which had been knocked down in similar circumstances some years previously and had to be re-built).
Thankfully potential disaster was averted by a resident being able to clear a blocked storm drain right up at the top and BEAR Scotland on site for several hours clearing blocked drains on the A7 down below. With this being a recurring issue it cries out for regular scheduled maintenance preventive work on part of D&G Council and BEAR Scotland working in cooperation……..
