Thomas Hope is elected to carry Langholm’s Burgh Standard for 2026
It is truly the start of Langholm’s favourite season when the town’s young women are dressed up and the young men are suited and booted, ready to enjoy a night out for Election Night.
2026 was no exception. Any stranger approaching the Buccleuch Centre would have wondered what was happening as a healthy crowd gathered to welcome Langholm Pipe Band and Langholm Town Band, who marched their musical way to the meeting.
Whether they were there to cast their vote, enjoy the music, or attend the Common Riding Annual Public Meeting, the atmosphere was electric, with everyone welcoming the start of the new Common Riding season in the Muckle Toon. The meeting was well attended, and the audience was delighted to hear that the Common Riding is in a sound financial position and that the Trustees and Members are all set for another successful year.
A full report on the meeting and loads of photos, and well-wishes in this week’s E&L.
