Copshaw Mother and Son to take their terriers to top dog event
Copshaw Mum and son Caroline Blackie and Leo Page are counting the days to Crufts – the UK’s foremost and most prestigious dog show – where they’ll both be competing with their Border Terriers. Gilly Fraser had a chat with Caroline to find out more about the big event.
Q/ Why does Crufts mean so much to dog people?
A/ It is an achievement to even be qualified as dogs come all over the world to show at Crufts. If you’re placed it is even more of an achievement and joy!
Q/ What classes are you and Leo in?
A/This year we have all three border terriers qualified for breed classes. Picer He’s the Gaffer (Fenn) is qualified for Puppy Dog. Kirkbyvalley Tally Ho (Tally) is qualified for Junior bitch. Elemcella Sedum (juniper) has qualified for Postgraduate bitch, and for Good Citizen Award bitch as she passed her bronze certificate this year. She has also qualified for The YKC members’ Terrier Stakes and will be in the Junior Handler as Leo has qualified for the 6-11yr age group on Hound and Terrier day.
Q/ What are the three dogs like in character?
A/ Fenn is now 11months old, Leo bought him when he was 12 weeks old. He is full of cheeky character and can be a bit of a handful for Leo at times.
Tally is one year old, we only got her four months ago as her owner/breeder Len Jackson sadly passed away. He had qualified her at six months old for Crufts, and his wish was for her to carry on being shown. We were told she was a shy reserved dog, but she has completely changed to a tail wagging fun terrier.
Juniper is six years old now, she is an amazing natured terrier who loves to show. She is perfect for junior handlers as she knows to help them. We have had Juniper since she was ten weeks old.
