Since its inception, the sponsored walk has raised of £390,000
Rotary Club of Langholm Umbrella Walk Saturday 4th October 2025
The Umbrella Walk has been running successfully since its introduction in 1998 by the late Alastair Davies, who was at that time the Rotary Club of Langholm Community Convenor. Alastair went on to become Club President and Rotary District Governor of District 1020 in 2009 / 10.
Thanks to Alastair’s initial foresight, initiative and enthusiasm the Umbrella Walk has gone on to facilitate local organisations by raising a total of £390,000 since its inception.
The participating organisations find their own sponsors using the Sponsorship Forms provided by the Rotary Club, who then collate the entries. Being a Registered Charity, the Rotary Club applies for Gift Aid from HMRC for those who are eligible.
We are also very fortunate in the Town in having generous Trusts which support the Walk, they are The Jock and Mary Elliot Memorial Trust; The Arthur Bell Trust; The Ainslie Charitable Trust; The Bowman Little Trust; the Stoneypath Trust and the Stevenson Trust and we are very grateful for their generosity and support. The Trusts add to the sponsorship raised by the organisations depending on the number of walkers they have, along with the number of sponsors and the funds raised by sponsorship.
