Lifeline local transport is in danger of having its
operation reduced without any public consultation
SWestrans, the South West Transport Partnership, ‘a group set up by Transport Scotland to determine and deliver better transport, both locally and nationally, and to act as a catalyst for regeneration of the region’s economy’ seems to have awarded the Langholm town bus service contract to Telford’s Coaches. This a change from the previous service being run by Dumfries and Galloway Council. SWestrans met on 25th June to consider tenders to run the services in Dumfries and Galloway and in a report to the partnership it says that people will be given information about changes to services using on bus advertising, the Council website and social media. Award letters to service providers were issued on 23rd June. The report states that the SWestrans Board had been previously informed that there would be amendments to the bus network to ‘introduce efficiencies and avoid duplication.’
