MSP is shown round The Holm’s health and fitness facility
The important role even a small village can play in keeping its residents fit and healthy was demonstrated to Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton when she visited Newcastleton last week.
Ms Hamilton, who represents Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire in the Scottish Parliament, was given a guided tour of the Polysport gym and fitness centre by Founder Libby Kennedy and committee member Judy Jarvis.
The idea for Polysport was first born more than a quarter of a century ago when local people decided their tennis courts were in need of an upgrade. However ambitions for the facilities swiftly outgrew the initial modest plan and really took flight when the Children In Need charity awarded a grant of £10,000.
Over the years since, various grants and fundraising initiatives have led to the creation of an all-weather Astro-pitch and a Pavilion complete with changing rooms and multi-purpose gym.
