Milntown was buzzing as the first tie between Peebles and Hawick kicked off at 2pm, and a close-fought tie it was. Hawick, however, ran out winners by 29-19.
The much-awaited fourth tie between favourites Melrose and a strong Heriots side was a cracking match. Heriots played out of their skins against the Borders side, who were top of the Kings of Sevens table. However, it was the team from the Capital who won the tie, score Melrose 14 – Heriots 21.
Langholm ran out easy winners against the Presidents 7 and then took on Jedforest in the third last tie of the afternoon. Jed took an early lead and extended their lead with another try. Langholm hit back with a brace of tries while Jed scored a third. With the score 21-12, a well-worked move by the hosts saw Ben Jardine cross the line for what seemed like a good try and an easy conversion, but the referee ruled that Langholm had knocked on and the try was chalked off. Jed scored again before Langholm came back with a 3rd try (converted) to make the score 26-19 to Jed. Langholm tried desperately to get another score, but it was Jed who had the final say with another try. Score: Langholm 19 – Jedforest 33.
