Strength of feeling of townsfolk made plain to panel…but will it make a difference?
Almost three hundred people attended a meeting held in the Buccleuch Centre which had been organised by Langholm, Ewes and Westerkirk Community Council on Monday night to discuss issues with politicians and officials from statutory agencies and with Mr David Stevenson of the Stevenson Trust.
David McVittie had first raised items of concern with the community council who had agreed to organise a public meeting. Initially concerns were some of the eyesores and vacant land in Langholm which had been undeveloped for many years as well as buildings such as the Erskine Church.
The panel consisted of Councillor Denis Male, MSPs Oliver Mundell and Colin Smyth, Mr Macmillan interim head of Economy and Infrastructure at Dumfries and Galloway Council, three representatives from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), two representatives from Wheatley Homes and David Stevenson. Apologies had been received form MSP Emma Harper, Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council Gail McGregor and Councillor Archie Dryburgh. The meeting was chaired by Stuart Clement who is the Chair of the community council.
