Objectors have Over Cassock shooting range in their sights

Eskdalemuir CC is one of 27 against the plans, but 46 letters of support received

A proposal to create a permanent rifle training facility near Eskdalemuir is set to go before Dumfries and Galloway councillors next week, with planning officers recommending that it be approved.

Applicant Euart Glendinning is seeking permission to change the use of agricultural land at Over Cassock, around four miles north of Eskdalemuir, to establish a permanent gun practice range. The application also includes plans for a new facilities and accommodation building, areas of hardstanding and associated infrastructure.

Council planning officer Graham Smith has concluded that the development represents an acceptable form of rural diversification and complies with planning policy.

The outcome will just miss the E&L’s print deadline, but we will publish the outcome in next week’s edition.
