Win against Carleton makes it two out of two: Steele and Piszczykiewicz are the star performers for the Langholm squad

Langholm Cricket Club 1st XI 156 for 5 beat Carleton 154 for 8

LANGHOLM made it two wins out of two when they defeated Carleton by five wickets last Saturday.
Star performers were David Steele with the ball – 4 for 10 off 10 – and Nicky Piszczykiewicz with the bat, scoring a half-century.
On winning the toss, skipper Graham Park elected to bowl. Straight away the wicket played low and Langholm struck with 0 on the board when David Steele bowled Rice.
Soon after, a decent catch in the gulley by Piszczykiewicz ended Alex Smith’s innings on 1, leaving Carleton 13 for 2.
Whinn and McDermott took the score to 31 before Steele struck again, with Andrew Paisley taking the catch, to dismiss McDermott for 6.
It got worse for the Carlisle side when Steele clean-bowled Field to leave the home side 32 for 4 after 16 overs.
At this point, Greig joined Whinn and, with Whinn very much to the fore, Carleton looked to repair the damage.
The pair added 57 in 11 overs, taking the score to 89 before James Price trapped Whinn LBW for 62.
Two quick wickets from Stevie Johnstone got rid of Smith and Tickner, both caught behind by keeper Elliott, and Carleton were on 110 for 7 after 34 overs.
Freeburn helped Greig take the score to 136 before he was bowled by Tony Steele for 8. Carleton finished their 40 overs on 154 with Greig 50 not out.
The other wicket takers were Johnstone 2 for 19, Price 1 for 25 and Tony Steele 1 for 31.
Openers
After a slightly edgy start, the Langholm openers Graham Park and Elliott set about the Carleton bowling with Park, in particular, looking in good form.
The pair added 45 before Elliott was caught at mid-on for 10 off Alex Smith.
Park fell for 34 when clean-bowled by Ben Smith with the score on 49 for 2 after 12 overs.
Tony Steele and Piszczykiewicz looked to be well in control on the up and down pitch.
Solid defence from Steele and some big shots from big Nick took the score to more than 100.
The pair had added 73 when Piszczykiewicz, on 50, was bowled by Whinn.
Carleton briefly looked to stem the run rate to 8 runs off 7 overs and claimed the wicket of Chris Stewart who was caught and bowled by Whinn.
A couple of fours from James Price eased some of the tension, especially after last week’s nervy collapse.
With the score on 152, Price fell for 8, bowled by Litherland. Soon after, a drive for four by
Tony Steele took Langholm over
the line and he finished on 37 not out.
This was another great win for Langholm and leaves them as the only team with a 100 per cent record in Division 1, well poised for a promotion challenge.
