GILLY FRASER hears about Sarah Borthwick and her show-jumpers
A top showjumping horse co-owned by former Langholmite Sarah Borthwick has pulled off two incredible wins at the highest level of the sport.
Piloted by 31-year-old Irish rider Richard Howley, the 12-year-old gelding Consulent De Prelet Z won back-to-back FEI World Cup qualifiers. The pair clinched the first win in a spectacular 17-way second-round race against the clock in the first leg of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ 2023/2024 Western European League in Oslo.
A week later they put in another blistering performance to beat all comers at the Helsinki International Horse Show.
Sarah saw all the action from her home in Harrogate, livestreamed on television.
“When they went clear in the first round in Oslo and then won the jump-off I let out the biggest, loudest scream,” she said. “Then when he won again at Helsinki I just couldn’t believe it. The next day I had a sore throat from screaming so much.”
