Local athletes at full pelt, encouraged by the Olympics
Known as the world’s greatest sporting event, France and the rest of the world will celebrate the start of the Olympics Games with an opening ceremony along the river Seine in Paris, just before the Common Riding Flag is being handed back in on Friday 26th July in Langholm.
Contested at the very first ancient Olympic Games, athletics is one of the oldest sports on record, with the names of champions documented from as far back as 776 BC. Athletes such as Noah Lyles, Dina Asher-Smith, Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone and Josh Kerr will be dreaming of Olympic glory.
And in Langholm, the sport of athletics goes from strength to strength with a number of young people dreaming of athletics glory however, maybe not Olympic glory just yet. Nevertheless, they are doing a great job of keeping Langholm’s strong reputation for producing talented young athletes firmly in place by competing in a number of events locally and nationally this summer.
