Could a banking hub be the answer for Langholm?

The successful Banking Hub in Kirkudbridght has been in operation since November 2023

By Mairi Telford Jammeh

On a recent visit to Kirkcudbright a friend and I popped into the Banking Hub. Three banks – RBS, Bank of Scotland and Santander and the Post Office offer shared banking services through this high street hub.

The hub consists of a counter service operated by the Post Office and there are private spaces where customers can speak to someone from their own bank. Located in the former Bank of Scotland premises the Hub was opened in November 2023.

Customers can access their accounts and pay in and withdraw cash, regardless of who they bank with. On certain days, community bankers from Santander, Royal Bank of Scotland and Bank of Scotland are available. As with other banks the Hub is closed on bank holidays. This might be something the people of Langholm could investigate as an option to provide them with services.
