Bandsman man and boy!

Langholm Town Band took a small break from rehearsals on Friday evening to mark a very special occasion Bass player, Bob Laidlaw, is celebrating 70 years as a bandsman with the band, a lifetime of music and commitment.

Bob said: “I can remember joining the band as a daft wee boy in long socks and short breeks. After some wrong notes Bandmaster Etherington said. “ You are going to have to pull your socks up Robert” I replied “Oh sorry” bent down and pulled them up. I don’t think he meant that and have been trying to pull them up ever since because I don’t seem to be getting any better!

“Over the years I have played the cornet, baritone, trombone, Bb and Eb bass. and have probably worn out 16 bandmasters.
