A Texel for Ukraine

A Texel ewe put up for auction to raise funds for the Ukraine has so far pulled in a whopping £4,820 after being sold seven times last week at Longtown Market.

Farmer Tom Holmes, of Nutholm, Lockerbie, donated the sheep after being inspired by the collection of essential items for the Ukraine at his son’s nursery.  He also says he’s horrified by what he is seeing unfold in the Ukraine and the death of so many children there and wants to help make a change.

The money raised by the auction of his Texel sheep is going to The Disaster Emergencies Committee Fund for the children and the future of Ukraine. The ewe was bought for £500 by Shan, selling again at £600 to N Kinsey, then selling at £500 a time to J Tucker, D Holmes (Tom’s Dad), D McDonnell, C&D Auction Marts Ltd, Lancashire Direct & J Stevenson, and Bendles Solicitors LLP.

Tom says he’s very grateful to C&D Auction Marts who generously waved their commission, and his special thanks go to auctioneer John Walton for “a professional job as always and the only man capable of creating such a stage in such an arena.”

Tom added the response to the sale of his ewe has been very overwhelming and says he hopes it will inspire one or two others to donate to the Ukrainian cause.
