MSP Oliver Mundell urges residents to join Warblaw fight ahead of deadline on September 17
LOCAL MSP Oliver Mundell, a long-time critic of
excessive commercial forestry and the SNP Government’s drive to carpet Eskdale with sitka spruce, has backed community campaigners in their latest round to fight off the unwanted proposal.
If given the go ahead, the Dumfriesshire constituency MSP believes the planting will change the character of Langholm forever and make a mockery of millions of pounds — including tax-payers money — that has been pumped into purchasing the near-by Tarras Valley Nature Reserve.
Mr Mundell strongly urges all those with a view on the issue to speak out and submit their views to Scottish Woodlands by September 17.
This can be done via their website www.scottishwoodlands.co.uk/public-consultations/warblaw-woodland-creation-1/ or alternatively emailing louise.wildgoose@scottishwoodlands.co.uk or by letter to Louise Wildgoose, Priorwood, High Road, Melrose, TD6 9EG.
Oliver Mundell commented: “This scheme is totally inappropriate and the developers continue to ignore local people.
“Its scale and proximity to Langholm threaten the character of the town and will diminish the view and outlook from neighbouring hills and the nature reserve
It is only necessary to take a drive up the A7 to Mosspaul to see how Warblaw will look once ‘big-forestry’ is finished with the land and has sucked every ounce of goodness out of it.
Please don’t let the apathy of the day lead to the despair of the future.
