RUSSELL Anderson of Langholm is one of three experienced forwards to make the move from Melrose 1XV to play for the Southern Knights, adding significant strength to the pack.
Anderson, a hooker, started playing rugby in his hometown and has played in the Scottish Premiership for Gala before a short spell at Darlington Mowden Park.
The dynamic front-row player made a move to Jersey Reds before returning to the Borders to play for Melrose in 2017.
Since joining Melrose, the Scotland U20 cap has been a solid link in the squad’s armour, leading him to also form part of the Scotland Club Inter-national squad.
Anderson is joined by Iain Moody, a Scottish Club International player who was part of the 2017-2019 Melrose squad to win the double-double, the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup titles.
The third player is second-row James Head. He started his rugby playing career at New Abbot RFC in Devon.
James made the move to Hartpury College to further his education and played alongside Southern Knights captain Craig Jackson.
Melrose Rugby was successful in bidding to become one of six clubs to compete in the first semi-professional league in Scotland called the Super6.
The tournament starts next month and the Southern Knights compete against Ayrshire Bulls, Boroughmuir Bears, Heriots Rugby, Watsonians and Stirling County.
The first match is between Southern Knights and Watsonians on Saturday, November 9.
