If you are against the blanket of trees proposed
for our beloved hill, then make your voice heard
Scottish Woodlands and James Jones Ltd’s plans to cover Langholm’s Warblaw Hill with commercial forestry were presented to the public in two consultation evenings in The Buccleuch Centre recently.
Immediately after these consultations, a further local meeting was held and the Save Warblaw Action Group was formed to stand up to the might of big-business forestry looking to cover the hill with large swathes of the non-native and invasive Sitka Spruce. This species has a maximum height of between 50 and 100m when fully grown; (they allegedly plan to plant around 1m) bear in mind that the Malcolm Monument on Whita hill is a mere 33m high.
The group will question the validity of the proposals from an ecological, recreational and aesthetic standpoint but they need the backing of as many
people as possible.
If Scottish Woodlands don’t receive enough responses, they will assume that Langholm doesn’t mind about the proposals and the project will go ahead in its entirety.
The future of Warblaw may seem out of our hands, but it isn’t if you take action NOW!
