Bowling
PAUL Warwick of Langholm won the Borders single-handed championship last Saturday.
The format of the competition is all the bowling clubs in the Borders play in a qualifying round in which they play two or three games to determine whether they qualify for a place on finals day.
Paul beat Alan Brady of Hawick Wilton two weeks ago in his first round with a score of 21-14.
In the second round he beat Scott Clarkson of Hawick Bowling Club 21-17.
This meant that Paul qualified for a place in the semi-final which took place at Jedburgh last Saturday.
At this stage he won against Gala Abbotsford club member Alan Howlieson with a score of 21-5.
The final wasn’t highly contested for because Paul won very comfortably against Eyemouth’s Stuart Bebbington, recording a 21-9 win.
The last person from Langholm to win the Borders singles was J A Turnbull, known to the town as Zander. He won it in 1981, playing for Langholm Old Town Bowling Club.
The New Town Bowling Club is very pleased and proud that Paul has represented the club in the Borders by winning a very hard-fought competition.
Well done, Paul.
