Five boys who learned their trade with Langholm mini/midis, helped Hawick Youth U18s to victory over Tynedale Colts on Saturday, to clinch the Semi-Junior Border League.
Hughie Donaldson, Jack Henderson, Ben Jardine, Ruaridh Forbes and Brady Wilson all put in gutsy performances. It was a hard fought game against a huge home side, who were a totally different team from the one Hawick had defeated at Volunteer Park earlier on in the season.
Fitness definitely played its part as the big Tynedale forwards began to tire after trying to bully their way to victory.
Hawick found themselves 28-14 down with 20 minutes to go, but dug deep and scored three tries in 15 minutes and held on to win. The boys won the league with two games still to play, but will be keen to keep their unbeaten record intact.
