The Thomas Hope hospital in Langholm recently had a six-month review of its level of care and it was found to be excellent on many of the standards assessed.
Regular unannounced inspections of the hospital are carried out by the Health Board who look at nine standards of care.
These standards include falls, pressure area care, staffing skill mix, infection control, food, fluid and nutrition, relationship centre care, cognition, infection control medicine and discharge and transfer.
The hospital received mostly silver and golds on the scoring with the overarching score being silver. As well as the above standards the inspectors look at the level of staff knowledge and how staff engage with patients and relatives.
Excellence in Care is a Scotland wide approach by Healthcare Improvement Scotland. It aims to ensure people have confidence that they will receive a consistent standard of high-quality care no matter where they receive treatment in NHS Scotland.
