Following several complaints from townspeople regarding the state of the derelict Ford Mill site in Langholm, Councillor
Denis Male contacted the E&L with an update on the situation.
It is believed that the property still belongs to Yorkshire-based Hartley Properties and has been for sale through Savills for more than 10 years.
Savills website states:
- The site extends to 1.81 acres (0.73 Ha), is brownfield in nature and is currently undeveloped. It is roughly rectangular in shape and is relatively flat. The land is bounded by adjacent properties to the south and north, Lairds Entry to the east and George Street and the River Esk to the west. The site benefits from its unique riverside frontage position and provides residents with the
opportunity to enjoy riverside walks whilst also being within convenient walking distance to the town centre a short distance to the east - ‘The site benefits from implemented planning permission for the erection of 29 residential dwellings, construction of an access road and formation of associated landscaping under sconditions have been discharged and that planning permission has been implemented and secured into perpetuity. The site provides developers with a very rare opportunity to deliver a high-quality housing scheme benefitting from riverside frontage within an attractive landscape setting.’
