𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗡 𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗘𝗧𝗦 𝗙𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗨𝗞 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥 (𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗦) | 16-year-old Conan Harper from Langholm has set the fastest 5000m time on the road in the UK
for an Under 17 athlete this year.
He was entered in the B Race of the recognised Podium 5k Event that was held in Barrowford, Lancaster. However, before the race started on Saturday and after he asked race organisers, Conan was promoted to the Elite Race. This was a strong field of athletes that included runners such as Oliver Dustin, who competed at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and Nike sponsored athlete, Ethan Hussey one of British Athletics exciting young prospects.
Conan shattered his personal best with a time of 14:46 mins, which is the fastest 5k time for an U17 athlete in the UK this year and 9th on the list of all time fastest runs by an U17 athlete in the UK.
Conan finished 24th out of 49 runners and was 3rd of the U20 runners in the field. He receives funding through the “Welcome to Langholm” Future Champions Awards and has firmly set his sights on beating this time later this year.
