Meet Tuppence, the Canonbie vet who is attempting to conquer the fabled Northwest Passage – in a 44ft rowing boat!
A Canonbie woman is aiming to make history next month – as part of an intrepid team attempting to be the first in history to row through the Northwest Passage.
Tuppence Mellish is a recently qualified veterinary surgeon, and the only woman in the team which has been drawn from the UK, America, South Africa and Barbados. She is also the youngest team member.
“Growing up in Scotland, I have always lived near the sea or lochs and have loved water, whether that be swimming, paddle-boarding, fishing, rowing or anything else,” Tuppence says.

“I am relatively new to rowing as a sport but have always had a thirst for adventure and passion for the outdoors. “I am fascinated by Arctic environments and when I was 16 I travelled to Norway as part of a British Exploring Society expedition for three weeks.
