Donna Hislop, Community Enterprise Manager, brings us up to speed
It has been a busy few months at The Langholm Alliance as we strive to help groups move forward with the Langholm Community Plan.
Members of the Community Forum met with Anna Griffin from SEPA to discuss the prospect of future resilience planning. Many projects are hitting a wall because of floodplain restrictions. The aim is to find some middle ground where we can put changes in place for quick recovery if necessary, i.e. If there is an existing footprint, for example mills, that have not flooded to date, can we look at adaptive developments for some of these buildings eg: downstair flood resistant rather than hitting a definite ‘no’.
A campaign for better awareness of Langholm on road signs from Carlisle to the Border on the A7, was launched lobbying MSP’s, MP and highways authorities on both sides of the Border, including meetings with Transport Scotland to discuss issues as well as continuing discussion with DGC around litter, potholes, public toilets and other visitor related issues.
