Langholm U14s 26
Annan U 14s 24
A large crowd under the lights at the 3G witnessed an exciting game of rugby against Annan U14’s on Tuesday evening.
It was evident from the start that the Annan team had played a great deal more rugby than our boys as they were very well organised.
Annan opened the scoring with a converted try. Langholm hit back almost immediately following a good break by George Wright who showed good pace and strength to run in from his own half. Annan dominated the rest of the third but the Langholm boys stuck to their task, defending well, unfortunately with the last play of the third Annan scored a converted try to take the lead.
The second third opened with Danny Tait skipping through the Annan defence to score from the kick off.
Tries were thereafter swapped with George Wright whizzing along the line for his second and Ryan Wood nipping in from close range.
At the end of the 2nd third, Langholm held a slender lead.
The final third was a topsy turvy affair with scores being swapped on a regular basis. Brady Wilson and Connor Thompson scoring for Langholm. With 1 minute to play Annan scored a converted try to take a narrow lead. Credit to the boys who played out to the end and with the final play Brady Wilson barrelled over the line with several Annan defenders hanging off him to get the ball down in the corner to secure a 26 – 24 victory.
It was very pleasing for the coaches to have a squad of 21 players to choose from and everyone got someone good experience. Mention to Daniel Cartner, Riley Bond, Will Donaldson, James Moffatt, Macaulay Bell and Declan who played their first 15 a side match and stuck in very well.
