Mark Hallam presents Mountain Adventures 2: The music
As described in last week’s E&L, at 7.30pm on Wednesday 12th November Langholm Rotarian and adventurer Mark Hallam will be presenting alpine journeys on foot, crampons, paraglider, via ferrata, skis, and music at The Buccleuch Centre. Cost is £10 on door or via buccleuchcentre.com with all proceeds going to the centre, which provides such a wonderful and important attribute to the community.
The show will start and finish to sweet resonances of the Swiss Alphorn, that distinctive combination of woodwind and brass type sound so symbolic of Switzerland and further distinguished by being long straight natural horn around 11ft long and made entirely of pine-wood. It is played like a brass instrument, vibrating pursed lips into a conical mouth-piece, to produce a characteristic natural harmonic series of notes covering nearly three octaves, which resound from the other end of the horn.
