Langholm seal promotion
As the referee’s whistle blew to signal the end of the match, you could have heard the roar in Hawick.
Langholm had done it: a 29-24 win over nearest rivals Dalkeith secured the coveted Tennent’s East League 2 championship and sent the Milntown crowd into raptures.
They’d been kept waiting, mind. The title – and promotion – could have been sealed a couple of weeks ago.
But in truth, it was never in doubt. Langholm have proved to be head and shoulders above everyone else this season, and it was fitting that they were able to lift the trophy in front of their home supporters.
Delighted chairman Kenneth Pool said: “All credit to coach Craig Hislop, captain Nathan Smith and all the players who have worked so hard over the past few months to make it happe .
“The club is lucky to have great support both at home and away and this has helped the team greatly this season.”
