GB star Amelia is tipped for the top – and the pride of her Langholm family
Had I known then that prowess at throwing a plastic disc could have made me an international sports star, watched by millions around the world, I might have tried harder.
But then until I met Amelia Edwards this week, I had no idea that Frisbee was an international sport.
If you live in Langholm, you’ll know Amelia. Her mum Samantha Edwards (Elliot) still has a house in the Muckle Toon, her grandparents are Sheena and Arthur Elliot, and her Uncle Alan is the power behind the throne here at the E&L Advertiser.
She’s now at Leeds University, studying for a sports degree – but that’s the just the half of it. She’s also captain of the Uni Frisbee team and, at the age of 20, the youngest member of the Great Britain squad to have played in the recent World Indoor Championships in Lithuania. Fast forward a few years, and it’s a pretty good bet that you’re looking at the next GB skipper-in-waiting.
