MOUNTAIN bikers are once again enjoying the trails in Newcastleton after a major upgrade of some sections.
Forestry and Land Scotland was responsible for the work on the popular 7Stanes mountain bike trails in the forest.
The revamp work on the red graded mountain bike route was undertaken as part of a planned trail maintenance programme but also to repair part of the trail affected by tree felling because of the P Ramorum tree disease.
One kilometre of new trail has been built at the Hidden Valley and another 0.8km of revamped trail has been completed on Swarf Hill.
All the trails are now fully open for riders.
Andy Hopkins, Forestry and Land Scotland’s technical officer, said: “The trailbuilding team had to work in some very challenging weather conditions, including heavy rain, snow and ice.
“After these harsh weather conditions, the new trail surfaces took a while to dry and firm up.
“We’re thrilled to have the sections back open for riders to enjoy and really chuffed with how fun and flowing they are.”
