You’ve made it a special year… let’s do it again in 2023
From all of us at the Eskdale & Liddesdale Advertiser, we’d like to wish all our readers a Happy Christmas and a prosperous and peaceful New Year.
We’re heading off for our annual two-week festive hibernation – but, before we do, we’d also like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support in 2022.
These are tough times for local journalism, and when titles much bigger than ours are struggling to make ends meet it’s quite an achievement for a small community newspaper like ours not only to survive, but thrive.
The reason it does is entirely because folk in Langholm and beyond go out and buy it and contribute to it every week. Without you, we simply wouldn’t exist.
In return, the small team here will always strive to produce a newspaper that you can be proud of.
One that will always reflect the issues that affect you.
One that will always champion your achievements.
But one that isn’t afraid to tweak a few noses occasionally, either.
If you’ve been following our review of the year – and you can read the second part inside today – you’ll see that it’s been a pretty extraordinary 12 months. We’ve emerged, blinking, from the gloom of the pandemic, to be faced with the challenge of getting life back to normal.
It’s not been easy, and there is still a way to go. But the undoubted highlights of the year – the return of the Common Riding, the visit of Neil Armstrong’s family, the Christmas Lights Switch-On, and, yes, the fun of the panto – are proof that you can’t keep the Muckle Toon doon when it puts its mind to something.
Who knows what lies in store in 2023?
One thing you can rely on is that your E&L will be there to cover it.
