On Monday the 18th of March, the members of Langholm Common Riding gathered for the AGM.
With office bearers remaining the same as last year, the members marked the retirement of long-serving trustee and member ex-Cornet Martin Borthwick. Chairman ex-Cornet Tommy Morrison thanked Martin for his dedicated service over the years.
Before the evening concluded, members welcomed ex-Cornet Colin Irving to unveil the new flag, which he and his family generously sponsored. It was hand-painted by UK Flagmakers in Chesterfield, with everyone agreeing that they have made a truly spectacular job.
Colin addressed members and trustees, and said, “I am delighted to be able to sponsor this new Burgh Standard on behalf of my wider family, past and present, and to give a little back to my home, which gave me everything. My heart will be filled with joy, though I may shed a tear, when I see it on its first Common Riding morning. May it hold all of Langholm in its spell for many a year, and bring the joy to those who carry it that it brought to our forebearers.”
The members and trustees extended the utmost gratitude to Colin and his family.
