MONIQUE Steele, her sister Colette Mather and Colette’s 14-year-old daughter Lauren raised over £800 for Alzheimer UK on Saturday. The final total has yet to be confirmed.
The trio had signed up to walk along Hadrian’s wall but the organisers decided on the day to change the route and the three walked fourteen miles instead of the planned thirteen.
On arrival at the start of the walk, they met friends of Colette’s from Freuchie and walked with them. They all set off from Haltwhistle in torrential rain but were well equipped unlike some of their fellow walkers.
As Monique says
“Coming from Langholm, we’re used to rain.”
At times walking in deep water up to the middle of their calves they soldiered on in challenging conditions and at one point just crossed a river before it burst its banks.
Monique described her young niece as “amazing”.
Monique would like to thank all the sponsors who supported them in their fundraising efforts and described the walk as an “epic adventure”
although more was to come on the way home as both the Brampton road and the A7 were closed and they had to get back to Langholm on the Tarras road.
