NO SAFETY CONCERNS: The flat roofs at Langholm primary are scheduled for repair during the summer break next year.

From no RAAC one week to wet rot and water damage the next

The E&L has seen a report to Dumfries & Galloway Council’s Education and Learning Committee, due to meet today, of wet rot and water damage problems discovered during inspections at Langholm Primary school.

The building in Langholm was identified as being constructed at the same time as Beattock Primary school which had similar defects highlighted earlier this summer and is currently undergoing remedial work.

The report went on to state:

“The works required at Langholm Primary School consist of removing the existing zinc roof covering to flat roof areas and all defective timber above the felt roof covering. Changes will be made to the build up to create a warm roof construction before the zinc roofs are reapplied. Work will also include any alteration to lead abutment flashings.
