The end of the school year tomorrow marks the final day of Denise Cumming’s time as a learning assistant in the Langholm and Canonbie Schools Cluster.
After Mrs Cumming returned from the USA in 1998 with a young baby, she decided she wanted a job which would fit around her family.
Pupils and staff from Glenzier, Canonbie and Langholm primary schools and, latterly, Langholm Academy have all benefited from her choice.
She said: “I have enjoyed seeing the pupils achieve what they thought was impossible. It’s been a challenging job but very rewarding.”
From supporting pupils one to one in the classrooms to days out and residential opportunities Mrs Cumming has been fully involved in all parts of school life.
She has always wanted the pupils to achieve their best and has been there to boost their confidence and make sure they took advantage of every opportunity.
She said: “I’m going to miss everyone in Langholm Academy and will try to find a way to stay in contact.
“I’m looking forward to having more time for her hobbies such as cycling and walking.”
Everyone in the cluster wishes her well; she will be missed.
