After contact with the owner, it appears that
the eyesore will remain with us for some time
After the ‘Eeh mei, good question’ series which we ran in the E&L earlier in the year, the most recurring follow-up question we receive is “What’s happening with the
Erskine Kirk? Ony progress?”
In early September, the E&L did some investigation and internet trawling in an effort to find the current owner of Langholm’s long-standing eyesore, the Erskine Church.
The Dumfries and Galloway planning department web site provided the name of the company currently registered as the owner of the property along with the name of the CEO of that company, all in the public domain. So it was back onto the internet to search for numbers associated with this find.
To begin with, the research bore little fruit beyond that which we already knew. However, after a little more digging and dedicated trying of phone numbers we were successful.
We contacted the owner who was located in Lerwick in the Shetland Isles and asked him the questions that had been put to us over the course of our covering the decline of the building into its current state.
In the first instance, after we explained the concern in the town over the condition of the derelict building and the length of time it has been in that state, the gentleman in question could not have been more helpful.
