EDF presents revised plans for windfarm near Copshaw

Andrew Bennett, EDF Renewables UK Principal Development Manager

Revised plans for a major new windfarm to be sited in Newcastleton and Wauchope Forests were put on display in an exhibition in the village this week.

The original proposal by EDF Renewables UK was for 80 turbines, but that has now been reduced to 59 following consultation with local communities plus several detailed surveys into factors such as local ecology, bird populations and peat status.

Andrew Bennett, Principal Development Manager at EDF Renewables UK, says he hopes people who saw the original plans last year will see that their feedback has been taken on board.

“Within Newcastleton itself some people felt the turbines were too close to the village and there were concerns about the downhill biking tracks which obviously attract a lot of tourism to the area, so the new plans avoid the 7Stanes area.
