Drivers needed for vital service

ENGINE POWER: Community volunteers are needed to drive the ACTS car in Langholm, which has so far proved a huge benefit to the town.

Elderly and infirm rely on ACTS vehicles for hospital visits

The search is on for kind-hearted volunteers to ensure the survival of a vital service in Langholm.

The community vehicle provides transport for local people to attend hospital appointments in places like Dumfries.

Supplied by Annandale Community Transport Services (ACTS), the vehicle is driven by volunteers – but with numbers dwindling, the organisation is now appealing for more drivers to step up and help out.

“We’ve currently got two drivers on our books, but because the van covers Canonbie as well as Langholm we’re finding we are getting increasingly stretched,” said ACTS manager Janet Saunders.
